10 Best Places to Visit December 2020

A lot of us have had to cancel plans to travel this summer so why not take the opportunity to go abroad this December instead? We’ve compiled a list of 10 diverse, delightful locations for you to escape to this winter.

If you’re craving a varied trip away this December, head to Mexico. The capital, Mexico City, is adorned with over 35,000 lights perfect to get you into a festive mood. If you’re more into nature, head to Bahia Magdalena for the whale watching season. Mexico also boasts an impressive cultural history such as the Mayan pyramid of Coba.

As opposed to the summer, rainfall is relatively low and the temperatures are more bearable which makes December an excellent time to visit Vietnam. Phu Quoc’s cyan waters are an ideal spot for relaxation. Ho Chi Minh City has a thrilling nightlife but also an interesting modern history, which you can learn about from a trip to The Reunification Palace or the Cu Chi Tunnels.

Dubai is the location for you if you want to have a relaxed holiday and has perfect weather in December. There are plethora of beaches so you can spend some down time after this crazy year!  For a different experience, why not visit the Burj Khalifa, one of the tallest buildings in the world or take part in an authentic Arabian Desert Safari! The Safari includes visiting the Arabian Desert  and participating in different desert activities like sand bashing, sandboarding and quad biking. You can also stay overnight at one of the Bedouin tents and enjoy your time listening to traditional songs, witnessing belly dance, and eating local cuisine.

After months spent at home, you may be craving a lengthy getaway and winter is a suitable time to visit South America. When in the area, Bolivia is a must-see. The country possesses a varied selection of areas to visit from the savanna across Amboró National Park to experiencing the summer solstice in Illapache de Los Andes. You can also head to see the sky reflected in the breathtaking Uyuni Salt Flats.

Strasbourg, France

Known as the Capital of Christmas, Strasbourg is the paragon of festive holiday destinations. With 300 wooden chalets and a Great Christmas Tree, Strasbourg’s markets provide endless entertainment. Treat yourself to some Alsatian food such as bretzels (like pretzels) and gingerbread, or sip on some vin chaud (mulled wine).

For a very different display of advent, head to Cuba to marvel at the neon-lit floats of The Parrandas Festival of Remedios. Spend your days on the island embracing nature through going on birding tours in the wetlands or hiking across the Viñales.

2020 has been a somewhat stressful year for many people so Fiji is the place to go to unwind. Relax on the beaches and admire the tropical fish. We recommend heading to the Yasawa Islands for a drier climate at this time of year.

If you’ve always wanted to journey to the southern end of the world, December is ideal for Patagonia due to the vast amount of sunshine. Pack your hiking boots and layers for hiking tours around Torres del Paine and Cape Horn. Make sure to visit Bariloche’s famous chocolatiers to treat yourself after all that exercise!

Have you always desired to tick the Northern Lights off your bucket list? Then you have to visit Finland this December. Finland is coated in pure white snow and offers a range of quintessential winter activities such as ice fishing and a reindeer sleigh ride.

Budapest, Hungary

Budapest provides an enjoyable city trip with a festive twist. For the entirety of the month, Budapest is decorated with lit streets and holds the largest natural ice rink in Europe. However, you won’t be too chilly because the Széchenyi Thermal Baths remain open throughout the winter to warm up visitors.
